Officer Caleb Daniel Abney Obituary – Lowndes County, Georgia | Beloved Hahira Police Officer Killed in Line of Duty

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Caleb Daniel Abney, a devoted public servant who lost his life in the line of duty on February 19, 2026, at the age of 26.

Born on September 24, 1999, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Caleb demonstrated an early commitment to serving others. He graduated from Lowndes County High School in 2018 and went on to earn an Associate Degree in Science in Criminal Justice from Southern New Hampshire University in 2020.

Caleb began his journey in emergency services with Lowndes County Fire and Rescue, where his dedication and promise were quickly recognized. In 2024, he was honored as Probationary Firefighter of the Year, a testament to his work ethic and passion for helping others. He later joined the Hahira Police Department, where he continued to serve with integrity, compassion, and professionalism.

Known for his joyful and caring personality, Caleb had a unique ability to put people at ease—even during routine encounters such as traffic stops. His kindness, sense of humor, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on colleagues and community members alike.

Tragically, Officer Abney was killed while performing his duties on Interstate 75 northbound in Lowndes County. While conducting a traffic stop with his emergency lights activated, a high-speed vehicle struck the rear of his marked patrol car, claiming his life at the scene.

Officer Abney’s service, courage, and unwavering dedication to protecting others will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the community he served so faithfully.

He will be remembered as a beloved officer, a committed first responder, and a life taken far too soon. Rest in peace, Officer Abney.
